I Am... Friday Links: 10.24.2014 & FBC

It's been a strange week and there's a lot that's going on in the world (as always), but I prefer my little corner of the internet to be my cozy spot where nothing bad ever happens. And with that, I'm glad that it's Friday. I spent the week spending nights in with Mike and meeting up with friends, new and old. It looks like the weekend is going to be filled with food (no surprise there) and a bunch of errands that I've been putting off forever.

I Am... Chicken Pho with Zucchini Noodles Recipe

It's been a fabulous October so far: super sunny days, crisp air, blue skies, and rainbow leaves falling everywhere. But, like all good things, perfect weather can't last forever and we've been getting more and more rain. I love rain (especially when I'm inside) and when it's raining, it's like the world is begging me to make a big pot of soup. It's the perfect excuse to stay in, cozy up with a book and smell the soup simmering.

I Am... Crispy Oven Sriracha Buffalo Wings Recipe

I'm a huge fan of chicken wings and I don't really know anyone who isn't. I think eating wings satisfies some sort of primal urge we have to rip meat off bones. I truly believe eating wings brings people together. There's just no way to be civilized when eating wings. Well, I guess you could break out the knife and fork, but the truth is, if you're down with eating wings with someone, it means you're cool with being your real self. And my real self has sauce all up on my face, dirty hands and of course, a big smile for whoever I'm eating wings with.

I Am... Friday Links: 10.17.2014

It's Friday! It feels like it's been a particularly long week so I'm pretty excited about the weekend. On Wednesday I was preheating the oven for pizza and of course, the fire alarm went off. Usually when this happens I'll wave a dish cloth near the alarm and it'll stop beeping at me, but this time around the entire building's alarm went off! I thought it was me, but when we finally made it down all those flights of stairs (so many, many flights) we found out it was a false alarm. When we made it back upstairs I figured it was the perfect day to make pizza – if the alarm did go off, it wouldn't be because of me.

I Am... Acorn Squash Lasagna Recipe

Once it's sweater weather, I'm all about the cozy and nothing is more cozy than a big pan of lasagna. I even find the act of making lasagna super comforting. I even love getting my hands all saucy and cheesy. To up the cozy, I decided to squash-ify my lasagna with some roasted acorn squash, which is sweet, nutty and perfectly melty after a quick oven-roast.

I Am... Mini Swedish Chocolate Cake Recipe

I don't know about you guys, but I totally have internet crushes. When I find a blog I like, I fall hard and I fall fast. I can easily spend hours that should be spent doing something productive going way, way back into the archives until I get that satisfying feeling of reaching someone's first ever post. I've done it far too many times to admit, but I confess I did it with Izy's gorgeous site, Top with Cinnamon and it was so, so worth it.

Woah, would you look at that – it's 10-10 today! You know that whole golden birthday thing where if your birthday is on, say the 16th and you're turning 16, it's a big celebration? My golden birthday was when I turned 10, but I didn't know what golden birthdays were back then and neither did my parents and I missed out. So now I get excited when the date and month match up. I know, I know, I'm super nerdy.

I Am... Spam and Egg Salad Roll Recipe

Growing up, one of my favourite meals was spam, eggs, and rice. It doesn't sound particularly Chinese, but spam, or luncheon meat, is actually a pretty big part of Chinese cuisine. You'll see it in so many dishes on the menus in HK style cafes: spam with macaroni in soup, spam sandwiches, and of course, spam and egg on rice or instant noodles.
